Kris Lane

Kris Lane holds the France V. Scholes Chair in Colonial Latin American History at Tulane University in New Orleans. He is author of Potosí: The Silver City that Changed the World (2019), Pillaging the Empire: Global Piracy on the High Seas, 1500-1750, and Colour of Paradise: The Emerald in the Age of Gunpowder Empires (2010), and Quito 1599: City & Colony in Transition (2002). With Arne Bialuschewski, he is author of Piracy in the Early Modern Era: An Anthology of Sources (2019). Lane is currently working on a global history of the great Potosí mint fraud of 1649.
