Logistics and Local Accommodations

All presentations will take place on the UNF campus between approximately 9 AM and 7 PM on Friday, February 28, with an optional group dinner in St. Augustine that evening. On Saturday, February 29, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a morning meeting of the Grupo de Estudio (10 AM-noon), as well as visits to historical and cultural sites related to piracy in St. Augustine and the surrounding area that afternoon and evening.

Parking at UNF

The Arena parking garage (https://goo.gl/maps/tsqp79MvBa2FTyya9) is right next to the Student Union, where all our events will be on 2/28. You can park anywhere on the second, third or fourth floors (just not on the first floor or the ramp leading from the first to the second). On a Friday, you’ll have no trouble finding space. Park nose in, so that your license plate is showing (in Florida we don’t have plates on the front of vehicles). Make note of your plate number, and at any of the kiosks you can pay for the day’s parking ($5). For more information, see https://www.unf.edu/parking/Visitor_Parking.aspx.

Transportation between St. Augustine and UNF on 2/28

For those who are staying in St. Augustine, the best way to get to UNF will be to travel in groups, using Uber. It’s about a 35-mile ride, and at rush hour, should take 60-75 minutes. The price for a standard Uber (1-4 riders) should be approximately $50. To make this easy for everyone, here is what we propose:
If you’d like to travel in this fashion, please meet between 7:45 and 8:00 AM on 2/28 in the Plaza de la Constitución (https://goo.gl/maps/E353wzCMkD5zFTgv9). We’ll gather in the white gazebo (see the photo on this page: https://www.visitstaugustine.com/venue/plaza-de-la-constitucion), and leave in groups, as we are able to fill cars.
The destination will be the John A. Delaney Student Union (https://goo.gl/maps/H354Upv5cETQaDQZ6) at UNF.
One person in each car will need to have the Uber app installed on their phone, and pay for the trip on behalf of the other passengers. Please have cash on hand to reimburse that individual.
If you’re speaking in the first panel, please plan to meet no later than 7:45, in case there are delays due to traffic.
If you’d like to leave St. Augustine at another time, please feel to reach out to the group on WhatsApp to see if you can coordinate the sharing of a ride with anyone.
At 6:30, when the sessions at UNF are done, we’ll use the same system to return to St. Augustine, with the Columbia Restaurant, 98 St. George Street being our destination.

WiFi at UNF

Visitors can access the WiFi by connecting to UNF-Visitor and completing a brief registration form. See here for instructions.
